What is Telecommunications and Networks?

TELE in Greek means a lot. Telecommunications can be defined as long-distance communication by telephone, telegraph, television and so on.

Telecommunications - The process of information exchange between multiple computer systems or stations via media tools such as telephone, telegraph and satellite. (The movement of information electronically)

Communications data - data word refers to facts, concepts, raw data and so on. In a computer system data is represented by 0 and 1. Communications data means data exchange in the form of 0 and 1, between two devices via cable transmission media such as.

Basic Components of Communication Systems
  1. Source - means a device or hardware used to transmit or generate data. Eg telephones, fax machines and personal computers.
  2. Sender - the sender will change (encodes) the data into the form of signals that can be transmitted through the transmission system
  3. Delivery System - comprised of a transmission line or a complex network which connects the source and destination.
  4. Recipient - the recipient receives the signal from the transmission system and converts it into a form that can be accepted by the destination device. For example, the modem receives an analog signal and convert it to digital form.

 Efficacy data communication depends on:

-          delivery
-          accuracy
-          timelines

How transmission occurs

There are two types transmit of analog and digital data

Digital transmission :
Digital data transmission to send data in the form of on, off or a series of 1 and 0.

Analog transmission :
Transmission of data in electronic wave signals

Digital signal
Analog signal

Waves recorded or used in its original form. For example, when we recorded voice tapes, direct signal from the speaker and copied to tape.

In digital technology, the analog wave is sampled at a certain rate and then converted into numbers (0,1) and then stored in digital devices such as CD. To listen to the music numbers are converted to the same wave volt original sound.

Transmission mode

Asynchronous Transmission
only one character is transmitted or received at a time

Synchronous Transmission
a group of characters is sent over a communications link in a continuous bit stream while data transfer is controlled by a timing signal initiated by the sending device

Media Delivery

Media data transmission is divided into two, namely wireless and wired media. Examples of wired media is coaxial cable, twisted pair and fiber optic. Wireless media is microwave and satellite.
The selection of the transmission medium bail influenced by several factors, namely the cost, rate of speed, delivery flaws, electromagnetic interference and data security.

Communication devices
  1.   Modem
  2.   Multiplexor
  3.   Front-end Processor
Mode of Transmission

There are three types of transmission modes:

Simplex
Simplex is a one-way or unidirectional communication. Usually as a one-way street. For example, television broadcasting

Duplex In duplex transmission, each station can send and receive data but not at the same time. When a device sends a signal of the device is waiting for the time to receive. For example, a walkie-talkie.
